Automated interviews are moving beyond prerecorded questions
New recruiting platforms can conduct adaptive voice interviews, ask follow-up questions and produce transcripts or structured evaluations for recruiters. Amazon introduced an enterprise system capable of conducting many voice interviews simultaneously, while Bullhorn reported broad exposure to AI among candidates working with staffing agencies.
The format can be efficient, but it removes familiar signals. There may be no eye contact, encouraging nod or human follow-up to tell you that an answer needs more context.
Your answers must stand on their own
In a human interview, the interviewer may rescue an incomplete answer by asking what happened next or what your personal contribution was. An automated interview may evaluate only what you actually said. Strong answers therefore need an audible structure.
- Situation: Briefly explain the business context or problem.
- Responsibility: State your specific role rather than only what the team did.
- Action: Describe the judgment, decision or process you personally contributed.
- Result: Finish with the outcome, evidence or lesson.
Keep the human relationship alive
Completing an AI screen should not end your outreach. When a recruiter is identified, send a short follow-up confirming your interest and reinforcing the two or three qualifications most relevant to the position. This creates a human reference point alongside the automated record.
Before beginning, read the recording and consent notice, test your equipment and identify the employer’s accommodation or technical-support route. Save the invitation and completion confirmation for your records.

Your practical next steps
- Practice three 60- to 90-second examples using situation, responsibility, action and result.
- Record a voice-only practice session and listen for missing context, long pauses and vague team language.
- Confirm recording, retake, support and accommodation rules before starting.
- Send the human recruiter a concise value recap after completing the screen.
